What can I say but 2010 started with a bang. I took out 1st place in the Elvis Sound-A-Like Contest at the Parkes Elvis Festival in January. With the prize including an automatic entry into the Australian qualifying leg of the Elvis Tribute World Cup. Another part of the prize included a voucher for an Elvis Outfit from a Canadian Company ‘Pro Elvis Jumpsuits’, they did a great job on getting the outfit to me in 6 weeks, it was delivered the day we left for the Tribute World Cup qualifier in Parkes.
The contest was held the weekend of 20 - 21 March, with the winner being Mark Andrews. The final had the top 12, with 9 of them from Sydney, 6 of which were club members, so well done guys you all did a great job. The only thing I will say, is that the weekend was a great social event, we got to meet other E.T.A’s from around Australia, who we had not met before and a few new friendships formed. The event itself left a bit to be desired and if the Parkes Committee intends on holding this every two years, they need to start now to rectify the problems uncounted this time.
On the 13th March, I attended the ‘Cadillac le-Salle Car Club Nationals’ held at Bathurst with Saturdays display at Mount Panorama, where along with approximately 100 cars on display, I had my 59’ Cadillac Trailer and didn’t it turn some heads, thanks to Tony and Tania Zino from Melbourne, who took me for a lap or two of the track in their 1959 Cadillac, what a blast. Also thanks to Peter Waite N.S.W Club President and his committee, a well organised event.
I have just heard the eagerly awaited release of ‘Elvis On Tour’ DVD release date 3rd August 2010. Can’t get enough of the great mans music? Try the online experience of www.elvisexporadio.com 24/7 all Elvis music. Which will soon be available on your blackberry, iphone etc.
I want to wish the club members travelling to the Wintersun Festival to compete in The Ultimate Elvis Contest Heat all of the best luck, with the winner representing Australia in Memphis in August.
The Blue Hawaii Night at Big Al’s was a great night again, with a full house and a tasty spit roast supplied by Sheppo’s Spit Roasts thanks Al and Margot. Time to start planning some more social nights for 2010, if you have or want to suggest some idea’s by all means contact us. A big welcome to all the new club members and hope to see you at a club function or a show throughout the year.
Anyway till next time “Keep Rockin”
